Quarantine Tips: Flapjack

Ingredients:

175kg of butter

175kg of brown sugar

175kg of golden syrup

350kg of oats

What To Do:

  1. Preheat your oven at 140 degrees celsius. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Melt your butter on a medium heat. When your butter is mostly melted, add your sugar.
  3. Add your golden syrup when the sugar is mixed in with the butter.
  4. Add your oats.
  5. Spread into the dish and press down gently, and put into the oven for 30 mins.

In the summer, Mum, Katie and I would often bake together after going swimming. Usually Katie loved to make cookies, whereas I’d prefer to make muffins.

When I was older, Katie and I would make cakes, chocolate cakes, or Victoria sponges lined with strawberries. We loved it, and would eat far too much, really, but we did not care. It was simple, but so fun. Even if there was a bit of bickering involved.

During quarantine, I wanted to go back to that nice time of summer bakes with my family in Devon, but also, I was getting so bored in quarantine! I found an easy recipe for maple syrup flapjacks, but have changed it to golden syrup flapjacks. It’s taken me 5 tries to get the perfect flapjack, and in my opinion (and my Uncle Peter’s; he’s a big fan) they are just heavenly. Lol.

Maybe give them a go! You can’t really go wrong. And even if they come out rock solid and chewy (definitely hasn’t happened before) they still taste alright!

Cooking has become a big part of my quarantine routine. I love creating new recipes, I love creating things for my Uncle and Katie to try, and its so gratifying!

    That’s how we usually make them here in UK! ๐Ÿคฃ. I made flapjack a few times last month using a recipe from the BBC good food website, it was exactly the same as yours, so good job! ๐Ÿ˜€

    The cooking time can be surprisingly short depending on how thinly you spread the mixture, so it really pays to check part-way through cooking ๐Ÿ™‚. ๐Ÿ‘

  2. Iโ€™m off to the kitchen to make these with gluten free oats. I know what you mean about cooking becoming an important part of the routine. Iโ€™m being forced to make stuff rather than just but it from Morrisonโ€™s. Yesterday I even made some play-doh.

  3. These look delicious! A warning, however. We started making these years ago and it led to a five-year stint selling loose granola at farmer’s markets. They’re a bit addictive. ๐Ÿ™‚
